yesterday i rendered out a test pan of the Amall environment, so i can see how its starting to shape up, and so i can catch small errors that are there (like certain objects not touching the floor) i am hoping to be done with this one soon, so that i may start laying out the uv’s for this environment
If you have ever been here, you will notice all looks familiar. I was excited to see this, and it made me want to go skate - but it’s raining today. Good job so far Jose, can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I’m sure some of you remember seeing or hearing about NY skating legend Boschi Pope, who made several video appearances and tore the scene up a few years ago. Well he’s back in the lime light for 2009 and this it’s for something other than skating…

Cops grab 17 Stack Money Family members, shut down Hamilton Heights crack ’supermarket’

They sold crack around the clock from a stately Harlem building and the Rollerblading boss showed off on YouTube, but Wednesday cops pulled the plug on the Stack Money Family.
In a morning sweep, cops arrested 17 members of the dope-dealing gang that had residents of a seven-story apartment building at 135 Hamilton Place living in terror.
“I was afraid even to look out the window,” said one tenant, who applauded the crackdown. “I’m glad to have my building back.”
The gang’s leader Boschi (Bloodie) Pope, 22, has allegedly run the gang from Rikers Island, where authorities taped his incriminating conversations.
The secretly recorded tapes made at Rikers, allegedly capture Pope instructing his girlfriend, Tiffany DuBois, 21, on how to resupply the gang’s crack stash, prosecutors said.
DuBois, the mother of Pope’s child, was among those arrested Wednesday.
Before a parole violation got him jailed at Rikers in May, Pope posted YouTube videos demonstrating his inline-skating skills.
Other videos of block parties thrown by the Stack Money Gang on its turf were also posted on the popular Internet site.
After getting complaints from residents that the gang had turned their building into a 24-hour crack supermarket, cops launched sting making 24 undercover drug buys.
For the past three years, the gang sold crack from apartments in the building, hallways and even the lobby, cops said.
The gang even had a code book with terms like “put the hat on” for a call to arms, and “red rag” for get out.
“They’re your everyday, ordinary terrorizers,” said Dan Rather, head of the Manhattan district attorney’s firearms unit.
With Christmas over and done with, products showing up the2nd and 3rd week of December, and now it’s really no surprise that release dates on pre-ordered products are pushed back yet once again. We are forced to fabricate and estimate on our own release dates without a single good excuse to give our customer. This is due to poor communication by our suppliers. We have battled with this issue since the beginning of time and no one has ever come out and said anything constructive until now. So this is a really nice article taken from Canadian roll blog about companies not living up to their release dates having later than normal release dates and why it hurts the industry. This is from the customers standpoint. So all you MFG’s and distributors need to take notes.
The Christmas rush of products has come and gone, and to be honest, other than DVD releases I was rather disappointed. It seems like every product I wanted was unavailable, not only in Canada, but in the United States as well. This usually is not a problem because products seem to get released in the rolling industry in trickles rather than bursts, and I know this is largely attributed to the relatively small number of rollers in the world, which adversely effects the amount of products that get released at certain times, this is a fact I have come to understand and accept. However, I stress the phrase “usually is not a problem,” the fact of the matter is many of the products I was looking forward to had either been announced or had official images on the internet a month or months ahead of time, with the assumption that these products would be released for the Christmas buying rush. Products were even featured on shop’s websites for pre-order, with many release dates being published for December or early January. I do not know who allows these images and information to be available on the internet and really cannot understand the benefit of releasing them. There are a few main downfalls that I see by doing this, both for the consumers and the businesses…..

Started with the official ‘Woodgrain’ Kendama
Got my supplies: wood stains, brushes, sandpaper and polyurethane. (Not all pictured)
*Tip: Borrow these from your Pops’ dusty tool collection, otherwise it aint worth the $.
Removed the official Kendama sticker making it no longer official. (KG could barely stand to watch me do it)
Prepped and applied all of the supplies in the correct order and….
BONUS: The nice folks at Kendama USA included a 10% off coupon valid until 01/01/09 in with my first order. Imma give this coupon away, so the first person to order and use the code…

Thanks for the hours of entertainment! 100% satisfied Kendama USA customer. Truth be told!

The other day I came across KG and Party Time Dre using Google Maps to search for skate spots and I thought, “Damn that’s a pretty good idea.” Although most people usually learn about skate spots through word of mouth or simply by being observant of their surroundings wherever they go, Google Maps can provide you with some new areas to go check out the next time you got a full day of skating planned.
KG and Party Time Dre were even using the Street View feature to scope out some hand rails, but I must warn you that although this feature is fun at first (”hey is that the mail man exiting the inside of your house?!”), using Street View can be extremely time consuming and is really only good if you already know a spot might exist in a specific location right off the street.
I recommend using Google Maps to locate schools, parks and other municipal locations that you might not have known existed, especially if your outside of your stomping grounds. Overall though, Google Maps is not a replacement for going out, meeting new rollerblading friends and physically exploring every inch of the constantly changing and expanding urban landscape.
3 colleges, 1 high school, 1 stadium, 1 mall, 2 medical centers and a bunch of city parks. Definitely a ton of potential spots if you are unfamiliar with this portion of San Jose, CA.
Give it a try and let everyone know your opinion about using Google Maps like this by leaving a comment below. I personally will probably just stick to looking out for new skate spots while I’m out and about.
Props to PW markets in the California Bay Area for including rollerblading as an extreme sport on their new grocery bags which even include directions on how to protect your school text books using the bag (I remember it always sucked doing that each year).
Their graphic designer wisely chose rollerblading while leaving out surfing, bmx and a billion other “action sports” such as kayaking, wind surfing, boogie boarding, sledding, air guitar, hunting, rock climbing, fixed gear biking, KENDAMA, beer pong, ultimate frisbee, barfing, Nascar, boxing, DDR, COD4, GTA4, ROCK BAND, GUITAR HERO, World of Warcraft etc…
Check out that powerslide!
Here are two east coast contests that went down this summer that we sponsored. Thanks to Gabe Holm for putting on two dope contests in the north east..
Looky here… We have a rumor on our hands. A new Aragon Park in Colorado? So far we have a confirmed “Brian Aragon skate park” sign that includes various state sponsors, a nice royal blue and white color scheme, some fresh green grass, 4″ round pressure treated posts that are held securely in place with quikrite brand cement and of course ARAGON throwing up the “I am not a crook” made famous by good ol’ Nixon.. If it is true, Congratulations Brian, this is really a crowning achievement as you are probably the first rollerblader to have a (public) skate park named after them. Well obviously seeing as I have little to no information regarding this park I’m going to STFU and go back to doing what I do best…is it moping, or is it mopery?I don’t know, but you get where I’m going with this. DECIDE FOR YOURSELF!
