Deshi Carbon skate delayed, but are they worth $350 for the wait?

Alright so I was doing my normal rounds and caught onto a few exerts from Deshi’s PR dude and team manager/ team rider Oli Bennett and here is what he had to say in response to a post regarding why some sites have decided to remove the Carbon from their websites. (along with an edit) There is also mention of the slimline frames which everyone seems to really be liking.

Deshi Carbon Fiber Review by Fredrik Andersson And Kizer Slimline Review by Zebastian Cassel from 013 VideoMagazine on Vimeo.

in fact, in light of some of Al’s (Dolega) comments, we did in fact delay production, ordered 10 more prototypes and sent them to all our best riders to test out the final version.

I have some now, Rosca has some, Dustin Weberski, Colin Kelso, Adrian Wallace, Fred Andersson, Vinny Minton, etc etc.

I was a bit concerned after reading the comments, and have been working closely with the guys since they recieved their new skates. The comfort / padding issue isnt an issue at all, the skates are super comfortable and the minimal padding means it feels like a sneaker, and we all love it. The flex is perfect, they feel a bit like new Deshis but with better forward flex. As they are made of carbon they will not deteriorate flexually over time, as carbon retains it strength. We all love the flex. The buckle is undergoing some improvements, and all the other elements are being taken into account.

Even as it is, this is the most enjoyable skate i have ever used. Its not like any other skate i have ever tried, you CAN jump heigher and further, i have been skating park and doing things i have never done before, just due to me believing i can get that little bit extra time in the air etc.

Anyway, this is what Dustin Werbeski had to say about them

i cant believe how light they are. i am very glad i went with the 9’s, they fit perfectly,
-a perfect liner, again very minimal, just enough for comfort. any more padding and it would make the skates to tight for my feet.
-very responsive, goes back on the weight and the liners, the skate acts like a well fitted running shoe, where you go it goes, no worring about slopping around in inches of unneeded lining, and no lugging around pounds of plastic. very easy to control.
-solid feeling skate, flexes when and where you want it to. and so far doesnt feel like they will get “soggy” fast. seems legit. as for specific flex, little to no inward “ankle bitting” flex, which is very nice. a decent amount of forward flex, any more and it would start to feel to soft, i think this did break in a lot from when i first got them. hopefully it stays this way and does not get more forward flex. and as for side flex, its not as much as the other deshis, a little stiffer, but once your used to it, its a good feel, it just feels right. same idea as skating with your buckles nice and snug, once you get used to it and go back to loose, loose feels sloppy and uncontrollable. so basically a perfect flexing skate once your used to its little bit stiffer feel.
-again a nice light minimal soul plate. usually i ride usd souls, but these are small and light enough.
-kind of back to the flex, this skate has little to no heel lift. this is a very good thing. foot stays in place nicely.

and some more…

The Carbons will come in the states at the same time as EU, but until its perfect we wont release it. These 10 skaters will give as much feedback as they can, many of them already skated the previous prototype, and so far 90% of feedback has been super positive. I can’t give an exact date, but please understand that this is for the benefit of everyone. I really do think this is going to be a skate like none other, the feel of it on your feet (lightness, no heel lift, completely fit to your feet, linerless and in independant sizes) is just out of this world.

That’s all I will really pull from the post because the thread turned into somewhat of a high school drama shortly there after with everyone firing off at each other for various personal reasons while other people complained that they never got a pair. (We never got a pair either!)

Well if all is true according to Oli B. (which it is never all true) the skates will something else… but will they still be worth $350? I mean $350 is more than 80% of us would be willing to pay for a COMPLETE SKATE, let along a boot only. But who knows? maybe it’ll be worth it. If anything HOPEFULLY they will be improved versions of the 1st editions because I actually skated those and loved them despite the fact they broke in a month. What I really liked most was the built in liner so I am really glad that is one of the main features of this skate. The fit with a build in liner is one of the best things I ever experienced in a skate. The skate was light, fit so close to your foot that you just felt unprecedented confidence on everything. You just knew where your feet were going to end up every time.  In my honest opinion this could be where the next generation of skates starts (again) but I still think even if they are the best skates in the world $350 is going to be pretty brutal. Most people won’t even ever get a chance to try them at the price. Not saying they aren’t worth it, they are just way out of the normal range which I think will be hard for most people to get over. With that said only YOU can tell the Carbon’s story because the end it’s your money

    wuauu!!!

To still be able to stay in business, Deshi will have to offer a lower-priced skate for the people who want to support Deshi, but simply can’t afford skates that cost nearly 400 dollars. They should keep releasing the ch1 skate in different colors. The punks will eat that shit up. ;)

I will agree that the first Deshi’s were sick with the the built in liner that actually was designed to fit the skates. I loved those skates and I think the other day JH tried to get some on eBay but lost by 5 bucks haha.

If they did in fact delay production of the Deshi Carbons to improve the design and to make sure they are completely satisfied with all aspects of the boot then that is a good thing. No one likes products that are missing attention to details especially if they are paying $350 for it.

I know Party Time Dre is going to be stoked to get his Carbons and will most likely say something like, “Dawg, it was worth the wait!”

i’m really excited to see what these deshi’s can do i’m almost willing to pay the 350 but we’ll have to see price isn’t a good indicator of how well skates ]persnally i would spend almost anytning on skates because when it comes to skates money is no object but really in the end it ain’t your money it’s how good the damn things feel on your feet these could be good and i could like my gen boots way better so don’t judge a skate by the way it looks or how much it costs but by how it feels because isn’t that what this sports all about
it ain’t about looks and it sure as fuck ain’t about money so suck it up you cheap SKATES who cares how much they cost

my good god im so stoked about this skate.

The price is a little over the top. I’ve usually spend around $350 on my skates, complete. As far as the wait, I don’t really care. They’ll come when they’re ready and finished. I think Deshi should offer either a lower price or a short warranty to not break in a month or two… But even 2 months is a short life of a pair of skates being they’re cuff-less and having minimal parts and all. Boiling to the point, I’m going to give them a shot. I already have money aside, but I will wait until Aggressive Mall is offering a customizable option. These will definitely be nice with the new Kizer Slimline frames. But, Once again… Those could be lighter for the price. If GC can make the ftl2’s weigh less than the Slimline frames for almost half the price we certainly have a problem.

i wonder if they have a built in heel pad

  12. Joe Says:

no it has some padding in the foot soul and a sifika shock absorber which is really nice
